Great Things Happening Recently

It has been pretty busy around Phila U and not just because its almost the end of this semester. On the sustainability front, things have been moving and there is plenty happening in "greening" our campus.
Within SOSA we have been busy getting back into the swing of things and getting some projects moving on campus:

• Scrap material recycling in all the design studios for multiple disciplines are out or will be out shortly for usage. Check them out, get those little pieces for study models or whatever project rather than dropping the money on entire sheets of material.
• The campus' co-op style garden has got the wheels moving. This project is going to take a lot of work to get done, but will be a great way to interact with all our majors on campus as well as the community of East Falls.

Outside of SOSA plenty of things have been going on also.

• Tuesday, 11/18 brought panelists to Phila U for a discussion on "Green Collar" jobs. It was a great insight into what is going on in the business side of things. Even more so it was a great opportunity to see what was going on locally in the Philly area. Attendance was great and lots of information was shared. One of the communications classes was there filming so hopefully I can get a link up soon with some clips. I had the chance to eat dinner with Ned Rauch- Mannino, who is in the managing director's office for the city, and got to tell him what we had accomplished on campus and he was very impressed.
• Today 11/20 we had the Faculty Committee meeting and Kyle Ramey, Ted Layton, and Calla Massman presented on what they learned at the AASHE Conference. They got tons of great ideas and direction for where we need to be heading as a campus not only just as SOSA.
• Also at the Faculty meeting we had a presentation from a student in the Sustainable Design graduate program who will be working to install a green roof system on the patio outside the Ravenhill Dining Hall breakout rooms. It was very interesting and exciting to see that being pursued on our campus. Even better is that he needs help building the modular units for the roof, so this would be a great chance to get SOSA involved. Stay tuned for info on that.
